Grow your own fruits and veggies!

It's far cheaper to grow your own produce than to buy it from groceries.....healthier, saves emissions as very "locally produced", saves water, (small plots easier to be sparing and specific with water than commercial fields) and mulch saves water, time, labor and waste!

PERMACULTURE book/links good for starting on city lots, poor or good soil; saving water, etc.

County EXTENSION services (and websites) have tons of local info re your area; websites and garden books also prolific. FARMER'S MARKETS often have someone selling seedlings and dispensing local advice.

Some cities/towns have COMMUNITY GARDENS where you can rent a plot and talk to other gardeners.

Easy to add habitat, food and nesting materials for birds and butterflies and bees/pollinators while you are planning your garden.....honeybees and other pollinators need help surviving! Critical...

Added some sources of info to this solution.

Currently I live in town, about 100 sq. ft. so far of garden bed in the back yard. Winter in maritime NW (west of Cascade Mountains) means I have oriental greens, kale, parsley, beets, broccoli and brussel sprouts to eat, despite recent snow for a week that covered the beds. Also some seedlings of the same that won't really grow much again till Feb, but then produce more and earlier broccoli than spring sown.

Kale, parsley, apple and lemon (or ginger) makes a really yummy green drink in the blender. What's really priceless? Going out the back door with two year old grandson in our matching rubber boots, to pick some greens for the morning omelette. he carries the colander and proudly bring in his haul to mama!

Let's really build this one out!  How does one begin growing a garden?  What are the best methods for growing?  What are the most resilient & highest yield plants etc.?
