Washing your clothes in cold or warm water rather than the hot cycle can save up to 500 pounds of CO2 per year in greenhouse gas emissions.

Also, rinse your dishes with cold water because really, do they need two hot baths?

Actually re dishes, sometimes the soap won't rinse off very well with cold; particularly with glass or plastic surfaces. A container of hot will rinse several glasses with less water use than a running faucet.

I'll try to look up sanitizing issues/studies to see what is really needed when someone is sick or in a group setting like a daycare. Standard recommendations may not be as up to date fact based as possible, but from an era of no concerns re energy/water use.
