When you go to a restaurant or get carry-out and you need a napkin, take a second and think about just how many you need. Often we grab way more than we'll actually use and then the excess just gets thrown away. Consider how many you actually need before you take them.
Also, often times napkins are very under-used when you grab for a clean one...try unfolding the one that seems used to find clean sections and keep from having to grab a second unnecessary napkin.

for take out, I sometimes guess wrong, then put the clean napkin in "snacks" pocket of my backpack (I work long shifts and take food/usually have tea bags and vitamins and such with me).
I try to keep a clean handkerchief in my bag for a reusable napkin. I'm even better at keeping a washcloth in there, though i hate to get it dirty when I'll still be out for long. On overnight shifts it has been helpful to be able to scrub my face with dry washcloth to wake up a bit and feel better......but also very nice for occasional spills!
