When you get to the end of a legal pad/note pad, don't throw away the cardboard backing!  You can use it as something to write on when you are editing a document or using looseleaf to write something down: it provides a nice, strong, page-sized platform to do just this!

I literally have some pad backs from the 90s that I still use and are in perfect shape...

they are also good for crafts....cover with felt for felt board, use as part of framing a drawing or photo, make old fashioned "paper" dolls out of them to "dress" in scrap papers and fabric, and so on.
