Okay. This one's a little nebulous-- not so tangible as swapping out your incandescents for CFLs-- Because the outcome can be varied (if there's an outcome at all). Bummed that the State is considering putting the kibosh on the hybrid incentive program? Concerned about the new mall that's going in where the Jackson's farm used to be? (Yes, but the nearest Pottery Barn is a whole 10 minutes away!)

As Americans we are blessed with a generally functional governmental system where we get to elect our representatives. As an added bonus those representatives have phones, email addresses, and mail boxes. So write them.

If there is a environmental issue that has you concerned, voice that concern to your Congressperson, your State Assembly person, your City Council. If you think your letter will quickly find its way into the recycling (or worse, the trash) think again. You representative may be busy, but they are also beholden to you the voter.

Nevertheless, the issue that you find terribly important may not be the issue that your representative finds terribly important. If your pleas seem to fall on deaf ears, add a little umph by CCing your local paper or news outlet, especially on local matters.

Results vary, as they say. But your voice is another tool with which to help the environment.
